What LearnScope knows about you

LearnScope is a study app for first-year engineering students: multiple-choice quizzes and interactive visualisations across six subjects. There is no account, no sign-in, and no server. This page explains what that means for your data.

Effective 22 August 2026 · Matteo Lazzari, Switzerland

Stays on your device

Your quiz history and progress, held in the app's local database on your iPhone.

Leaves your device

Nothing. LearnScope works entirely offline and sends no data anywhere.

Never collected

No account, no email, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no location.

Who is responsible

LearnScope is developed and published by Matteo Lazzari, an individual developer based in Switzerland. There is no company behind the app and no commercial use of your data.

For any question about this policy, write to matteo.lazzari@epfl.ch.

There is no account

LearnScope asks you for nothing: no email address, no password, no sign-in of any kind. You open the app and start revising.

So that your results stay attached to you between sessions, the app generates a random identifier the first time it launches and keeps it on the device. It is not derived from your name, your Apple account, your email, or anything about your phone, and it is never transmitted. It exists purely to label your own records inside your own database.

Your quiz history

Every time you finish a quiz, LearnScope saves the subject, the number of questions, and which answers you got right. That record lives in the app's local database on your iPhone.

It is not backed up to any server operated by the developer, because there is no such server. If you have iCloud backup enabled for your device, your quiz history may be included in your own iCloud backup, under your Apple account and Apple's terms. The developer has no access to it.

What the app does not do

Deleting your data

Open Settings in the app to erase your quiz history. This is permanent and cannot be undone.

Deleting the app from your iPhone also removes its local database and everything in it. Since nothing was ever sent anywhere, that is genuinely the end of it.

Your rights

Under Swiss data protection law and the EU GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, and erase your personal data, and to object to its processing.

In practice, LearnScope holds no personal data about you on any system the developer controls, so there is nothing to request access to or to have erased. Everything the app stores is on your own device, visible to you, and deletable by you at any time.

Children

LearnScope is built for university-level coursework and is not directed at children under 13. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children, and in fact collects no personal information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If the way LearnScope handles data changes, whether through a new feature or a different service provider, this page is updated and the effective date at the top changes with it. Material changes will also be described in the App Store release notes for the version that introduces them.
